What is BioThane®, and why is it ideal for horse halters?

BioThane® is a premium synthetic webbing made from a polyester core coated with a waterproof, durable TPU/PVC layer, making it highly resistant to wear, UV, water, and dirt—yet still soft and flexible.

It beats traditional materials like leather and nylon in not absorbing moisture, resisting odors, and being much easier to clean—often requiring just a quick wipe-down or rinse. It also remains flexible in cold weather, retains its shape over time, and is vegan-friendly and hypoallergenic

Are these halters comfortable and gentle on a horse’s skin?

Yes. BioThane® doesn’t absorb sweat or moisture and remains smooth on the horse’s coat, helping to reduce chafing and irritation—especially when properly fitted

How durable are BioThane® halters compared to leather or nylon?

Extremely durable. Unlike leather that can crack or fabric that may fray, BioThane® resists abrasion, maintains strength under stress, and withstands rough outdoor conditions without deteriorating.

Will the colours fade over time?

BioThane® holds its colour exceptionally well—opaque or deeper shades tend to fade very little with use. Fluorescent shades may fade more noticeably in intense sunlight, but still last significantly longer than fabric alternatives.

Are these halters safe for turnout or unsupervised use?

Our classic and premium BioThane® Halters are designed for lead work, schooling, and everyday handling—they are not break‑away.

Research indicates that breakaway halters can sometimes delay release until after potential injury or create a situation where the horse runs loose without a halter—posing its own risks.

Do you offer a breakaway solution for safety-conscious scenarios?

Yes—you can pair your BioThane® halter with our breakaway BioThane Lead Lines featuring a safety fuse or collision-release mechanism.

This setup allows a non-breakaway halter to be used safely during turnout or transport, providing added protection when needed.

Can these halters be customised or personalised?

Absolutely. Each halter is handcrafted in the UK and can be customised if our standard sizes don’t suit your horse. We also offer personalisation with your horse’s name or custom engraving, along with a choice of 18 colours and seasonal limited-edition designs. Simply share your requirements, and we’ll be happy to create a tailored option for you.



How do I maintain the halter?

Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth or rinse with water for mud removal. No conditioning or drying time needed—maintenance is that easy.
