Collection: Waterproof Biothane® break-away Lead Line Collection

Smart. Hygienic. Built for Real Yard Life.

A horse-smart innovation designed for everyday routines and professional handling, our Break-Away Lead Lines combine strength, hygiene, and safety in one clever design.

Handcrafted in the UK from genuine BioThane® coated webbing, each line pairs a robust polyester core with a waterproof PVC coating for outstanding durability, easy cleaning, and long-term performance. Unlike cotton or rope, BioThane® won’t absorb water, mud, or odours - stable grime wipes away in seconds, keeping your tack fresher for longer.

Two Options – One Clever Design

  • Standard Break-Away Lead Line - everyday strength, flexibility, and a smart two-in-one break-away function.
  • Break-Away Lead Line with Chain End –- designed especially for horses that bite or chew their leads, with a strong chain & hook end for extra protection.

Why riders and professionals love them:

  • Break-Away safety on your terms - our unique two-in-one design can release under sudden load for safety, then convert back to a secure option when extra control is needed (e.g. routine leading vs. supervised tying).
  • Hygienic & low-maintenance - fully waterproof, wipe-clean, and suitable for disinfecting - ideal for busy yards, multi-horse handling, vets, and physios.
  • Durable & weather-ready - abrasion-resistant, flexible across seasons, and built to withstand stable to field life.
  • Colour-match your kit - available in 18 colours to coordinate perfectly with our bestselling BioThane® Head Collars.

Designed for real equine jobs: From turnout to grooming, wash bays to loading practice, these lead lines adapt to every routine. Switch seamlessly between break-away and secure configurations as your situation changes - without changing equipment.

Care: Simply rinse or wipe with warm water and mild soap, towel dry, or disinfect as required. Avoid harsh solvents and high heat.

Good practice: The break-away feature reduces risk but is not a guarantee against injury. Never leave a tied horse unattended. Inspect hardware and webbing regularly, and replace worn components.

BioThane® break-away Lead Lines – Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Break-Away Lead Line different from a standard lead line?

Our Break-Away Lead Line features a patented 2-in-1 safety release system. In the event of sudden pressure - such as if a horse panics or rears - the line is designed to release cleanly without damaging the lead.

With a simple change in how you tie and clip it, the same line can be set to a more secure mode for everyday tie-ups. In this configuration, it still offers a safety release under extreme pressure but provides greater resistance for routine use.

This innovative design was developed by Trinkety Equine and helps protect both horse and handler in emergencies, while performing just like a standard lead line during daily handling.

What does “break-away” mean, and how safe is it?

The “break-away” feature means that under sudden load (for example, if a horse panics, rears, or becomes caught), the lead line will release to reduce risk, when being tied in the "quick release way" rather than resisting and potentially causing injury.

Our lead has been designed to offer a safety-feature, but it’s not a guarantee - good handling and regular inspection are still vital.

The same line can also be locked into a more secure way when you need stable tie-ups, and tie-ups where you don't want an immediate quick release.

Is it safe to leave a horse tied with this break-away line?

The break-away feature is a risk-mitigation tool, not a guarantee against injury. It’s meant to reduce risk if there’s a sudden force, but it should not replace good handling practices.

Never leave a tied horse unattended. Always inspect the hardware and webbing regularly and replace any worn or damaged parts.

What’s the difference between the Classic and Premium versions?

The Classic Line comes with silver chrome fittings - a durable, cost-friendly option that’s perfect for everyday yard, field, and stable work.

The Premium Line uses solid brass fittings, which are naturally rust-resistant and ideal for coastal, wet, or high-moisture environments where standard hardware may corrode.

Both are equally strong; the difference lies in the hardware finish and its suitability for different conditions.

What does the chain-ended version do, and who is it for?

The chain-end version has a metal chain & hook at the end of the lead, which is especially helpful for horses that tend to bite, chew, or mouth their lead ropes.

The chain end is tougher in that spot, so it reduces wear from biting and increases longevity of your lead line. It gives added durability where soft webbing alone might get damaged.

It is not required for all horses - but great for horse owners whose horses have chewing habits or where the end of the lead is under more stress or exposure.

What sizes/lengths are available, and how do I choose the right one?

Our Classic and Premium Waterproof BioThane® Lead Lines measure 150cm in length, while the chain-ended version is 160cm. Both styles are made in a sturdy 19mm width.

Need a different size? We also offer custom lengths - simply email us with your requirements and we’ll be happy to provide a quote.

What is waterproof BioThane® webbing, and why use it?

BioThane® is waterproof coated webbing with a strong polyester core. It’s stronger than leather, more durable than nylon, and offers advantages like being mudproof, odour-resistant, and very easy to clean. Unlike materials that absorb moisture, Biothane® won’t waterlog, so the line stays lighter, fresher, and more hygienic. Simply wipe it clean or disinfect between uses.

What are the hardware finishing options?

We offer two options:

Classic Line with silver chrome fittings - ideal for everyday yard & field use.

Premium Line with solid gold brass fittings - designed for coastal stables, high moisture environments, or places where ordinary hardware tends to corrode.

Will BioThane® get stiff in cold weather or crack over time?

Under normal use, the BioThane® stays flexible even in cold weather. It is built to resist cracking, stretching, or deteriorating, so long as the core webbing is intact and the product is used and stored properly. Occasional wear is expected, as with all materials, but BioThane® outlasts many traditional materials under similar conditions.
